Healing Art Journaling with Traveler’s Notebooks & Unity Stamps

Hello everyone! Last week I went back to one of my favorite crafts… Art Journaling. I’ve been sharing my personal journey over at Instagram Live, and I have to say, journaling  is a beautiful process. I had stopped journaling because of how introspective it can be, and also because of my very limited time as a busy mom of two. But I recently got a gift from a dear from of mine, Laurie, and she included a traveler’s notebook set for me. I thought it was such a kind and perfect gift! I knew I had to do something special with those notebooks, and then the thought of journaling came back to me…

Art journaling with traveler’s notebook is the right thing for me at this moment in my life… Small pages, quicker spreads, yet meaningful as can be… Click below to watch my latest art journaling live video, in which I walk you through my creative process!

I’ve listed all the supplies used that I could find online for you on the video description. You can also click HERE and HERE, to check them out!

Hope you enjoy today’s post. It’s a little more personal, but it’s certainly something creative that I thought could inspire you to spread your crafty wings! That’s all for now, thanks for stopping by, and until next time!

Flamingo Foil-Mates Card Video Tutorial

Many of you may be wondering if the Foil-Mates paper is thick enough for techniques that use water, and the answer is yes. The paper has a very smooth finish and allows you to apply and blend inks easily. On the other hand, it will hold after using water moderately. On today’s card I sprayed water directly to the Foil-Mates background and although at first you might notice some texture on the spots the water touched, once it dries it will have its original smooth finish.

These cards are lots of fun to make, especially because the Foil-Mates background do the hard work for you… All you need to do is add a bit of color! Click below to learn how to make these Flamingo themed Foil-Mates cards!

Bible Journaling with Large Stencils – Process Video with The Crafter’s Workshop

Bible Journaling is one of the many way I enjoy using TCW stencils. I usually like to add subtle patterns to create a background with different layers of stenciling. Nevertheless, the beautiful designs The Crafter’s Workshop offers include patterns and textures that could stand on their own as the main focal point of a page. Today I’ll show you how I created this Bible Journaling page in the book of Proverbs, featuring bold stenciled flowers painted with a large 12″x 12″ stencil.

Although many of the products used to create this project were sent by The Crafter’s Workshop, all the opinions stated in this post are my own.

SuppliesTCW9007 Clear Gesso, TCW750 Dahlia Blooms, TCW9016 Spun Sugar Heavy Body Paint 4 0z. TCW9020 Raspberry Sorbet Heavy Body Paint 4 0z., Journaling Bible, Distress Ink Refill, Distress Oxide Inks, Water mister, Brush, Heat tool, Cloth, Black Archival Ink, Stamp, Acrylic Paint Markers, Sparkle clear glitter marker.

First of all, I think it is important to let you know that the only way a Bible page can hold all these media is if you apply first one or two light layers of Clear Gesso Matte. The gesso will protect the delicate fibers of the page and will allow you to add several layers of paints and other media. Nevertheless, always be careful to layer your media little by little to avoid over saturating your page.

Video Tutorial

This is a very layered page, but I always try to not cover the words so they can still be read afterwards. What I do to avoid covering the words is use the heavy body acrylic paints only on the margin of the Bible and then use water reactive inks for the rest of the page. So far this technique works great for me. On the other hand, I love how TCW’s heavy body inks have a matte finish and also resist any watercolors or water based inks you layer on top of them. That property is what gave this page all those colorful undertones. I thought I’d prepare a video to quickly show you the process behind this page. Click below to watch.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post. If you’ve never tried TCW stencils on your Bible, I encourage you to go for it. It is an easy and striking way to add color and texture to your page. From repetitive patterns to beautiful themes, I know you will love all the options The Crafter’s Workshop has to offer. That’s all for now. Until next time.

Layering Solid and Detailed Rubber Stamps with Magnolia Flowers by Unity Stamp Co.

Today I wanted to share a card that came to life while I tried my new stamps from the kit Magnolia Flowers for the first time. So yes, it was a bit of an experiment that turned into a colorful and pretty set of cards.

LayeringStamps_UnityStampCompany_MagnoliaFlowersbyGraciellieDesign_2

I tried out different inks but this gorgeous red from ColorBox’s Petal Box by Teresa Collins looked really crisp and perfect for this solid floral stamp. I wanted to stamp the flowers randomly to create a background. Once I was done stamping the solid flower I thought of layering the detailed flower in gold ink (from the same Petal Box set). The second layer of stamping covers the first one and because these are pigment inks, the gold sits on top of the red adding a subtle metallic touch wherever it overlays it.

Video Tutorial

I have a video tutorial that you might enjoy watching, in which I show you the process of this card design. Click below to watch or click here to visit my YouTube channel and watch it over there!

The finishing touch was adding some color filling the white spaces with an alcohol marker, which gives the background a patterned paper feel! I’m sure you can use different color combinations to create more backgrounds like these! I think this new stamp kit is perfect for this technique so I hope to can come take a closer look at it here.

Paint Smooshing Cards with Heavy Body Paints, Grafix Monoprint Plates and TCW Stencils

Have you ever heard of ink smooshing? It consists on touching the paper with usually watered down inks to create an abstract background… Well, I wanted to try it out with paints and I captured it on camera for you too! So yes, jump this intro and click play if you must or visit my Youtube channel and watch the tutorial there.

All products used were sent by The Crafter’s Workshop and Grafix.
All opinions stated here are my own and based on my personal experience using these products.

For this tutorial I’m using heavy body paints from The Crafter’s Workshop together with a tool that I had never tried before, an acrylic monoprint plate from Grafix that I think is ideal for this technique. Ink smooshing usually works using a packaging piece of acetate and that makes sense since the ink isn’t too heavy for the sheet. But paint is usually heavier, even when watered down and there’s a chance an acetate sheet won’t work a smoothly as this Duralar Monoprint Plate from Grafix did!  You’ll see what I mean when you watch the video below…

Supplies
Here’s a close up to the amazing textures the smooshing gave the paint! This is a must try technique! Click here to visit The Crafter’s Workshop blog and see the complete list of supplies.

If you liked this tutorial please give my video a thumbs up, reshare with your friends and subscribe to my channel! That will motivate me to keep on posting creative ideas and tutorials for you! Leave me a comment on TCW’s blog too, letting me know which card is your favorite… Floral or Mermaid?

That’s all for now! Until next time.
