Decofoil Stamping: Mixed Media Poinsettia Card + Christmas Freebies!

Merry Christmas! I couldn’t miss the opportunity to share my final Christmas card of the year with you! This time I am sharing a mixed media card in warm traditional colors. I got the chance to use some mediums I had almost forgotten I had, so that makes my little crafty heart happy!

Supplies:
Dies Cuts: Spellbinders – Heirloom Oval, Damask Motifs, Layered Poinsettia, 5 x 7 Matting Card Basics A, Exquisite Labels 11 / Poppystamps – Holiday Winterberries / ODBD – Fancy Foliage / Die-namites – Budding Branch
Stamp: Graciellie Design Distressed Poinsettia Digital Stamp Set
Inks: Ranger Distress Inks – Barn Door, Vintage Photo
Adhesives: Thermoweb – iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive, Decofoil Hot Melt Adhesive Sheets
Tools: Evolution Advanced die cutting machine / Mini Minc / Ranger Ink Blending Tool / Umbrella Crafts Sponge Dauber / Small brush / SU Paper piercing tool / Samsung ML2020W Laser Printer
Embellishments:  May Arts – 1″ Ivory Crinkle Ribbon, 3″ Olive Tulle, 5/8″ Olive Green Raffia Bows / White pearls / Silver hologram jewels / Styrofoam /
Other: Decofoil Transfer Sheets – Silver, Red, Pewter / Snow-tex / Twinklets Diamond Dust / DecoArt Media Crackle Paint – White / Pan Pastel – Titanium White, Silver

I’ve been using decofoil so much lately and something tells me I won’t stop using it any time soon! It just gives your projects such a unique look… It really takes a card to the next level. This time though I used it to stamp my flower. Of course this poinsettia is a digital stamp, which means I went ahead and printed it with a laser printer and used a laminator with some red decofoil transfer sheet to foil the flower. Once your image is foiled it works just as it would with heat embossing, so you can play with a fun foil resist technique. I colored the poinsettia with a Barn Door diy Distress Spray Ink, sponged it with ink and even rubbed some Titanium White Pan Pastel to add highlights -my new favorite mixed media technique-. To make the center of the flower I crushed some styrofoam and glued it with mixed media adhesive.

For that lovely touch of snow I used Snowtex on the leaves and Twinklets on the center of the flower. I had not used these two in way too long so I was glad to add them to this card! Clearly I layered many embellishments and die cuts to frame the poinsettia and used a bit more of foil on a few die cuts to add some interest. There are many ways to foil cardstock for die cutting but this time I used Decofoil Hot Melt Adhesive sheets. You need to run your cardstock twice through your laminator when you use these sheets, one to stick the adhesive sheet to your cardstock and a second time to foil it. I added texture using different kinds of ribbons too and finished off my card with pearls and jewel stickers.

I hope you find inspiration on today’s card! I bet there’s still a few cards and tags you need to put together so I hope this gives you a few ideas. But before I go, I have a little Christmas present for you, my followers… Two digital stamp sets available for instant download, both celebrate the season with fun and inspiring sentiments and pretty images! Layered Poinsettia Canvas – DIY Christmas Crafts & Holiday Decor –

‘Tis the season to be crafty… Yes, it’s time for holiday crafts! If you’ve followed my tutorials you’ve noticed that I’ve made a few DIY Christmas decor projects since last year. Today I have a poinsettia canvas with lots of layers for a full, tridimensional look. My Christmas decor theme is usually white, cream, gold and bronze. I went ahead and used elements in the same color scheme for my mini media canvas too.

Supplies:
May Arts Ribbon – 1 inch Gold Faux Suede Leaves, STRING/BURLAP – IRIDESCENT WHITE, 1.5 inch White Lace with Ivory Satin Center Ribbon, 3/4 inch Ivory Lace with Pearl Center Ribbon, 3/8 Inch Multi-Size Beaded String – Ivory, 1 Inch SOLID/WRINKLED – IVORY, 5 inch Ivory Tulle
Die Cuts – Spellbinders: Layered Poinsettia / Prima: Forest Leaves
Stamps – Justrite: Festive Poinsettia
Embellishments – Eyelet Outlet: 12mm sticker jewels in white, gold and flower / Twinklets Diamond Dust / Bead Landing word beads / Miscelaneous: Vintage buttons, large pearl stickers, rhinestone stickers, Christmas tree mesh
Adhesives – 3M spray adhesive / UHU all purpose adhesive / hot glue
Tools: Evolution Advanced die cutting machine, American Crafts heat tool, Stanley mini glue gun, SU Simply Scored Stylus, Stamping block
Other – Therm O Web: Amber Watercolor decofoil, Gold decofoil / Cottonwood Arts

To create this piece I started off by putting together the multi layered poinsettias. Click below to learn how I made them.

Layering the canvas is not as difficult as it seems, but again I mixed many different materials:

1. Use spray adhesive to attach gold Christmas tree mesh. (I used a delicate fishnet mesh.)
2. Add several pieces of lace and ribbon to one side of the canvas. (I attached pearl center lace on top of gold satin ribbon.)
3. Make a triple bow from white crinkle ribbon, layer it with iridiscent and pearl beaded string.
4. Gather together tulle ribbon and attach it underneath the white bow.
5. Add the poinsettias on top of the bow.
6. Embellish the tulle with jewels, rhinestones and buttons.
7. Die cut leaves in white cardstock, adding Diamond Dust or any kind of snow glitter and adhere them around the flowers.
8. Die cut more leaves and foil them with decofoil. (I used a multi colored foil.) Adhere the foiled leaves around the flowers.
9. Add a sentiment. (I used a bead word.)

I hope you are inspired to create your own DIY decor pieces this Christmas using craft supplies you already own! This piece is now sitting on one of my book shelves and it goes along perfectly with the rest of our Christmas decor.

More Inspiration: August Stamp Release – And our Giveaway Winner! –

It’s finally time for our inspiration blog hop! Today we have more project ideas using our new August stamp release. If you haven’t had a chance to visit our shop and check out our collection click HERE. To all of you who have been part of our celebration, our designers and followers -old and new-, thanks for making of this new release a success!

My card for today features yet again one of my favorite stamp sets from the new collection: Sent with a Prayer. I am using again the leaf images as embellishments (printed and foiled on acetate), thanks to the help of a Samsung laser printer, a Mini Minc machine and Deco foil transfer sheets. The sentiment from the same stamp set was printed and then foiled with matte black Deco Foil to add even more contrast against the brown cardstock.

I layered all the elements on this design on a vintage patterned paper panel, that I aged even more applying ink sprays in Vintage Photo, Peeled Paint and also some Pan Pastel in Titanium White. I also used DecoArt Media white crackle paint on the flowers and then I watered it down a bit to add some droplets to the flowers and part of the card panel.

The flowers, laces, ribbons and twine from May Arts Ribbon gave lots of texture to this Fall inspired card. I also added pieces of a stunning vintage washi tape from the Eyelet Outlet here and there. Other embellishments such as the gold buttons, big pearls and wood clip finish the look of the flower cluster. I foiled the metal gear embellishment using Deco Foil Adhesive Pen and a piece of Deco Foil transfer sheet to match the gold on the leaves.

I hope you are inspired by the array of projects the designers have prepared for you today. Follow the links below to check out how they used the new stamps from this month’s release!
