Christmas in August? house of cards challenge: metallics

Welcome to a new month of creative inspiration! This month our challenge at House of Cards is Metallics. Feel free to translate our cue word to your papercrafting project however you like! I used gold metallic cardstock to create a white Christmas card with some vintage like paper poinsettias. I am late to the Christmas in July movement, so I’m sharing my first Christmas card today instead!

I used a technique from my tutorials (found here) to make my flowers. The technique added texture and a very dramatic look to the poinsettias. I also played with the delicate die cuts in gold to create a nice medallion. I have to admit that I love adding polka dot embossing to my cards, so I am happy with the final look of the card.
I hope you feel inspired to join our challenge this month! I am glad you stopped by today! Until next time!

I love the image for the challenge but I decided to go with the color inspiration this time adding all the different hues to my handmade flowers and also using a fun patterned paper! This month’s theme and fresh and warm colors sure allows to experiment with textures, elements and designs so I hope you feel inspired to join us!

In addition to my card I also prepared a video for you, a tutorial on how I made and colored these flowers. You won’t believe how simple they are to make and the unconventional medium I used to colored them! Hit play to watch:

Vintage Spring Blossoms – House of Cards

Welcome to my post for this month’s House of Cards challenge: Bokeh. Have you tried the Bokeh technique before? Well, I knew the technique but had not tried it yet. This technique imitates a photography effect that plays with light. I hope you get a chance to visit the House of Cards blog to see all the different samples that will be shared starting today and of course to join the challenge with your take on the Bokeh theme.

I want to apologize for the pictures because it is raining and I had to take them in my craft room. The card looks prettier in “real life” but you can sure see well the Bokeh background. I used earthy tones for the background, because I wanted to make a vintage card.

Something basic to have for this technique is a circle stencil, at least that makes the process way easier. I used a homemade stencil with different sizes of circles created for me by my friend Sue (here) and applied four colors of ink with a sponge dauber. I used Distress Inks and white pigment ink in the end. I tried to apply the same tones of inks in different intensities and also sprayed water to soften and blend the colors.

I completed my card with flowers, die cuts, a few embellishments and a beautiful sentiment. I hope you enjoyed seeing today’s post. Thanks so much for your kind visit! If you have any questions feel free to send them in and please don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter because I will be sharing giveaways and tutorials soon!

See you next time!

A Shabby Chic Spring Card – House of Cards

Today I’m sharing a shabby chic card I created for House of Cards. This month’s challenge is to use butterflies and/or colors from the inspiration photo. I went for the butterfly theme only, without knowing where to start and after a few handmade flowers and stamped butterflies I hit it off. I am so happy with how the design turned out!

The butterflies were stamped with my set Parisian Postcard released by Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps, fussy cut and added to the card around the sentiment’s label and handmade flowers. Since I used blue for the flowers, and followed by brown for the butterflies and sentiment, I decided that my patterned paper from the recently released Floral Frames Paper Pack (available on Etsy here) would go together perfectly. I accentuated the color scheme with a light green. I used a few die cuts to add even more texture, layering and depth to the design, after all it is a shabby chic card!

I stenciled the patterned paper with crackle embossing paste, using my friend’s Sue Kracker’s custom stencils that I happen to love (click here to check them out)! I sprayed ink and perfect pearls, applied paint, added ribbon, pearls, gauze and distressed the edges of the patterned layer to give this creation all the final touches a proper European style shabby chic card should have. I am in love with the results.

Make sure you visit House of Cards to join this month’s challenge and find some extraordinarily beautiful samples that will inspire you bunches! The design team is an inspiration to me always!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Make sure you stop by on May 1st for a new challenge at House of Cards and also for my Birthday Giveaway!

Retro Vintage Cutie – House of Cards

It’s the beginning of a new month and to be honest I feel like time is going by extremely fast! The good news is a new challenge is up at House of Cards! The theme of our challenge this time is Enamel Dots. I don’t own any enamel dots so I used a couple of matte black pearls that look a bit like them.

My design was inspired by both the black pearls and this BEAUTIFUL printable from Nicecrane Designs. This sweet Sunbonnet Baby is from a new printable set called Restored Sunbonnet Postcards. I printed the file on white linen cardstock, fussy cut it and covered it with glittery glue to add interest to the image and also to protect it and make it a bit sturdier.

I went for a retro vintage design, using different colors, patterns and elements to create a freestyle collage card. To make this and other similar layerings on my cards I pick a color palette based on the papers I have available, die cut various different shapes and adhere all the pieces. Sometimes I overthink the position of the different layers and sometimes it’s a spontaneous process, but I do like every single layer to show without overwhelming the focal point of the card, in this case the lovely Sunbonnet Baby.

All the links to the supplies used are listed below so you can check them out! I hope you have enjoyed today’s post! Make sure you visit House of Cards to see what my talented teammates have created for this month’s challenge. I can’t wait to see what you make for this month’s Enamel Dots theme challenge!

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a great week!

Postcard from Paris – House of Cards

A new month starts and with it a new challenge at House of Cards. This month’s theme is love, which is very appropriate considering Valentine’s Day is only a couple of weeks away! It is absolutely a beautiful theme and I hope you find time to join us throughout the month with your creations! In a mission to inspire you, here is what I have created:

I was inspired on both the challenge theme and my new stamp set Parisian Postcard. Since I just got the stamp set, I enjoy thinking of different ways of using it. This time I framed the Eiffel Tower and fussy cut the beautiful vintage flowers to decorate the frame. I like the romantic design this card has and the dimension and texture I was able to add to it.

I have mentioned before here on the blog that I designed this patterned paper to match this stamp set. It was released as a freebie for a while and now it’s available here, in case you don’t own it yet!

I hope you liked my card and feel inspired to join us this month at House of Cards! I can’t wait to see what you create!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week!

Glittery Color Challenge – House of Cards

This month at House of Cards our challenge is based on a very nice color palette with an added twist, glitter. I love aquamarine blues, so this combo is one of my cardmaking weaknesses!

For today’s card I was also inspired on a sketch from Cardabilities. I did leave a good amount of white space on the front of my card, though I think the final look reminds me of old fashioned bling (Gatsby style).

Supplies
Dies – Spellbinders: NEW! Heirloom Oval, Elegant Ovals, Snowflake Pendant, A2 Matting Basics A. Our Daily Bread Designs: Fancy Foliage, Asters and Leaves, Flourished Star Pattern
Stamps – Stampendous Spanish Messages
Inks – Perfect Pearls Mists in Biscotti, Ann Butler Crafter’s Inks as embossing ink
Adhesives – Scortape: 8 1/2″ x 11″ Double sided adhesive sheet, 1/2″ two sided tape. Beacon’s Tacky Glue. Uhu silicone gel glue.

Other – Envirotex Spray Crystal Clear sealer (used on glittered die cuts/made glitter opaque and vintage looking), silver embossing powder
