Sketch Challenge – Our Daily Bread Designs

Welcome to my first post for Our Daily Bread Designs’ Shining the Light challenge! Starting today I’ll be joining the very talented and inspiring challenge team at ODBD every week. Words fail to express how grateful and excited I am. This challenge was one of the very first I joined when I opened my blog, and this team has been incredibly supportive and kind always. So it is a great priviledge to be part of this beautiful group of ladies! Thank you Kelley for your kind invitation and thank you teammates for your warm welcome and support.

This week’s challenge is a sketch and below is the card I made inspired on it.

Supplies
Music Speaks stamp set
Beautiful Borders Dies
Doily Dies
Flourished Star Pattern Die

This month’s new release at ODBD is filled with beautiful stamps about worship. I used the new stamp set called Music Speaks. I felt quite inspired, since a great part of my life was devoted to serving in worship teams. While I was making my card a beautiful song came to my mind spontaneously, a song I had not heard in years. I am sharing it with you, so you can enjoy it too!

To see all the projects created for ODBDSLC221 or to join the challenge click here. You have until January 11, 2015 at 8:00pm EDT to join us. By participating in the challenge, you have a chance to win a $15 ODBD Gift Certificate good towards the purchase of stamps in the “stamps column” on the ODBD website, or to be spotlighted on the ODBD Blog at our next challenge. The random prize winner will be posted on our next challenge post.

Masculine Birthday Card

Hello there! You know that once in a while I like to create a special project to join some of my favorite challenges. This time I was motivated by this week’s Mod Squad Challenge: Masculine Birthday. Male cards are possibly the least made, especially in my case because I tend to work with floral and feminine projects all the time. So this was a good challenge for me!

I went for a classy and elegant card in navy blue, beige and gray. This is a 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ card with a square window and a filigree background I die cut using Spellbinders Gold Elements One. I ran a piece of gray gross grain ribbon across the front of the card, horizontally and added the central labels.

The largerst central label was die cut with Spellbinders Classic Squares Small and Spellbinders Majestic Squares. For the smallest central label I heat embossed a sentiment from Inkadinkado’s Personal Impression stamp set in silver and also stenciled it with Memento Ink in Danube Blue.

Finally I matted the inside of the card with gray paper and added some crystals to complete the design.

I hope you like the card. I had fun making it and I think it resulted in a very elegant male card!

Thanks so much for your visit.

Our sponsor for this challenge is

TWO WINNERS
will have a chance to win
two Cricut Cartridges:
Robot Party and Space Party!

I didn’t have enough time to make a christian Easter card, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Materials
Spellbinders:
– Majestic Labels Twenty-Five
– Damask Motifs
– Adorning Squares
– Grand Calibur die cutting machine
ODBD stamps – Faith
Brilliance pigment ink
Inkadinkado embossing powder in Silver Starlight
Zap! heating tool
Merletto crystals
Bazic two sided tape and foam tape
Other generic materials
Eggshell cardstock in white
Specialty pearlescent cardstock in soft blue
Specialty embossed paper in silver gray
7/8″ gross grain ribbon in light gray

This 4 3/8″ x 4 3/8″ card was made combining many different dies in alternative ways. The very first layer in blue is actually a rectangular die, I cut in half and overlapped to create a nice square frame.

The next layer, in gray, is the largest die from Adorning Squares. Now with the following layer, in blue, I also did some alternative overlapping to create a medallion. Using the largest die from Damask Motifs, I die cut 4 damasks and overlapped them. I suggest using the perforation close to the center as a reference.
Before I adhered all these layers together I crossed a piece of gray ribbon vertically. In order to do that I had to cut the medallion on two ends, as marked below.
The final step is the center square label, where I heat embossed this beautiful verse. I have a tip for you on how to heat emboss very intricate stamps. Turns out this ODBD stamp has a very small, detailed and fine font and it is a rubber stamp. I was never able to stamp it neatly with embossing ink. Once the embossing powder melted it would spread and the sentiment wasn’t as defined. So after trying different techniques, I finally found a way to heat emboss the sentiment perfectly, using pigment ink. In my case I used specifically Brilliance pigment ink in black, but because it won’t stay wet as long as a regular embossing ink, you need to apply your embossing powder faster. The result, impeccably heat embossed sentiments. To finish my design I added some crystals.
I really like this verse and every time I read it, it reminds me of a song from Third Day (here).

I enjoyed making this card so much! I hope you like it and feel inspired to join this challenge. All you need to do is visit Hiding in my Craftroom and link your creation.

The Card Concept Winner

Hello everyone! I am not so excited today because of so much back pain… GOODNESS! But there´s always a good reason to get up. I really wanted to come here and share with you some good news. Today I was picked a Winner on the Card Concept Blog by one of the designers: Ardith. THANK YOU Ardith! I really needed this motivation today.

This is the winner card:

I appreciate the DT’s encouraging comments, and also the wonderful girls’ comments that were before and after my participating cards, some of them are my bloggy friends now.

Some other good news that Blogger vanished from my entries and that had to be published yesterday, is that I won random on two other blogs, the first one: Sweet & Sassy Stamps. I absolutely love their stamps and I am so pleased that I won, I could pick up some goodies I had on my wish list!!! And then another prize at DisDigi Designs, a voucher for Marker Pop store. I didn’t know this place but they have an amazing variety of crafty things and amazing low prize dies (Xcut dies). Really, go check them out! I preordered some new dies that aren’t in the market yet, so that should arrive on my birthday (on May, JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA). I have to be patient, my purchases ship twice, first to Florida and then to my country.

So I guess my luck is improving, lol. And I am about to get a little prize from Avocado Stamps that I won on the Season’s Blog Hop (remember that one?). To know about that click here.

I am planning some projects, I hope I can post them soon. Have a great day. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Remember you too could win some blog candy:

Giveaway! Even better than Valentine´s treats are blog candies don’t you think! Today you have the opportunity to win one of my favorite digital paper sets from Shery K. Designs. These are great quality papers that you can print endlessly at home. Each paper measures 12 x 12 inch. You may recall that I use the vintage handwriting paper frequently. This set is one of my very favorites.

Shery has been so kind and she is sponsoring this giveaway. If you would like to see more of her designs please visit her shop, at Shery K. Designs

A card I love with a twist…

Hello!

There are some cards that have to be done again. The Cottage Charm card, is one of them. I must confess I’m in love with sketches that allow some sort of window layout to the card. In the case of this specific card, it’s a window created by the amount of layers and the way they are placed.

So today, I have a remake of the card I love, with a sketch I came up with through trial and error and a twist in the color palette. This image can give you a better idea:

One very important detail is that this card is quite larger (6 1/4 ” long by almost 5″ wide) compared to the original one. But it kept it’s charm. Here it is…

Materials
Shery K. Designs paper – Antoinette
Haj Design paper – Gorgeous Roses
Spellbinders:
– Grand Large Labels
– Butterfly Magic
– A2 Filigree Delight
– Fancy Framed Tags Two
Color Box pigment ink in pink
Ranger distress ink in Spun Sugar
My Pink Stamper – Spanish Sayings
Stampendous – Spanish Messages
Merletto pearls and crystals
Other generic Materials
Kraft heavy weight paper
Old blue pearlescent paper
1 inch pink ribbon
2 inch one sided lace

This is Valentine’s card. The sentiments I stamped are in Spanish and translated it says: “Princess… I love you”. I really hope you like it. This card has a tiny bit of my heart in it. 🙂

Cottage Charm

Hi!

There is a challenge that always inspires me. The reason? Unknown. This site makes my inspiration flow in a way no other does. It is the Our Daily Bread blog. This week they have an inspiration challenge going on ODBDSLC187 based on this picture:

Wow, what a beautiful color palette to work with… And so many little details to pick up and transfer to a project. This is what I came up with:

In the card for today I definitely worked with every single color in the picture. I used at least 4 different layers to show them. The first layer is a vintage handwriting paper, which is my interpretation of the antique cottage decor. The second layer is the exact tone of blue that appears in various decorative elements.

The third layer is ribbon and lace; the first one, picks up that cherry blossom pink that I love, and the second one brings that doily feeling to the card.

The fourth layer is a tricky one… Can you guess what I was thinking of when I did it? See those pretty details on that floral china? Yes! Also, this layer frames all the others just like that center door from the china cabinet. And it shows more tones of pink from the cherry blossoms too.

Hello everyone,

How was your weekend? It’s been a long one for me, but very productive for sure. That is why today I’ll be very brief. I wanted to stop by to show you a set of three male cards I was ordered to make. The lucky fellow’s birthday and dating anniversary are on February, plus Valentine’s Day of course. I truly enjoyed doing them, because I usually don’t make cards for men. These may give you some ideas on what to create for your loved one on Valentine’s. I hope you like them.

Have a great week!

Challenge/ Reto / Desafio

This year I plan to participate in a few challenges. I think it´s a way to motivate yourself to create new and different things, to showcase your creations and to share with many other crafters of the community. This time is Timeless Tuesday #253 turn, at Flourishes. Best of all is the winner´s prize: All stamp sets of their recent release.

The main rule is to create a shaped card, so for this one I used the larger dies of Spellbinders Gold Labels Four. And to honor Flourishes Stamps I used my beloved Cherry Blossoms Set (I know, I love it…). I used Spectrum Noir markers to color and Ranger´s Distress Ink in Spun Sugar to shadow it a bit, this last one matches the ribbon perfectly.

Hope you like it!
